Welcome to Tajimaya.
Tajimaya is located in Magome along the Nakasendo road
which was used extensively by travelers during the Edo Period.
The Japanese irori(hearth) is over 110 years old and
it is still in use.

History of Kiso bushi
Kiso bushi is the traditional folk song of Kiso district of Nagano, Japan. Kiso bushi started its history as Samurai warrior dance, Kiso odori, in 1428. Kiso Nobumichi, the 12th master from Kiso Yoshinaka, built the castle in Kiso-Fukushima and celebrated the restoration of Kozenji temple by this dance ceremony. This is said to be the beginning of Kiso odori. Kiso odori hasbeen welcomed among people from generation to generation. In 1915, Kiso bushi was combined with Nakanorisan bushi. Then Ito Sunao, the mayor of Kiso tried to spread this new Kiso bushi and odori together through radio and recordings. By his effort, Kiso bushi has become one of the most famous folk songs in Japan. Kiso bushi has more than 300 lyrics. Traditionally, people kept singing all through the nightfor wedding to celebrate it. Nowadays, Kiso bushi is used for the special events such as schoolsports day, anniversary or Bon dancing. Kiso bushi is still alive with its 15 major lyrics and simple but impressive dancing of people’s prayer for happiness.
